LOON LAkE CABIN

PRIVATE RESIDENCE | STEVENS COUNTY, WA

The McDaniel Cabin is a three-level lakefront residence designed within a grandfathered setback near the shores of Loon Lake.

The site presented significant constraints, including the existing setback, exposed bedrock, a steep cliff at the rear of the site, and limited spacing to neighboring cabins.

These conditions shaped a compact vertical design, with arrival at the rear of the site via a bridge approximately 22 feet above grade.

By maintaining separation from the existing bedrock wall, the design preserves native vegetation along the protected hillside, minimizing environmental impact on the lake and surrounding landscape.

As visitors descend to the ground level, the cabin gradually reveals views of native vegetation, wildlife, and exposed rock outcroppings. Living and sleeping spaces are oriented toward the lake, with large glazed openings that frame expansive water views.

At the ground level, sliding doors open directly to the shoreline, connecting the interior to outdoor gathering areas and a built-in fire pit, reinforcing a strong relationship between the cabin, the lake, and the natural setting.
