Architectural Designer / Project Architect

Sprott Architecture is a design-focused practice working on residential, small commercial, and boutique projects throughout the Puget Sound region. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to projects early, work closely with leadership, and help shape the systems and standards of a growing firm.

The role may be structured as either contract or W-2 depending on experience and fit. While fully remote, preference will be given to candidates familiar with Tacoma, Pierce County, and the greater Puget Sound region, particularly those with experience in local permitting and residential documentation.

JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Assist with design development for residential and small commercial projects

    • Develop Revit models and produce permit/construction document sets

    • Take relatively straightforward projects from schematic design through permit documents

    • Coordinate drawings with structural engineers and other consultants

    • Communicate with clients, consultants, contractors, and permitting agencies when appropriate

    • Review and incorporate redlines, code comments, and consultant feedback

    • Help maintain drawing quality, organization, and office standards

    • Support a small, growing architecture practice with a flexible and collaborative mindset

    • 5 to 8 years of architectural experience

    • Strong Revit proficiency required

    • Experience with custom homes, additions, remodels, ADUs, or similar residential projects

    • Experience with boutique commercial or tenant improvement projects is a plus

    • Strong design ability paired with strong technical documentation skills

    • Ability to work independently once project direction is established

    • Familiarity with Tacoma, Pierce County, and Puget Sound permitting processes strongly preferred

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working remotely

    • Licensure preferred, but not required

  • Someone who is thoughtful, self-directed, and comfortable balancing design with technical execution. The ideal candidate understands how buildings come together, communicates clearly, and works well within a collaborative small-firm environment.

They are organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing responsibilities independently while knowing when to ask questions or seek input. Experience with residential documentation, consultant coordination, and local permitting processes is highly valued.

  • This is not a purely conceptual design role or a production-only drafting position. The ideal candidate is comfortable contributing across all phases of a project within a collaborative small-firm environment.
